Introducing… Hiligaynon flashcards!

09.07.2020 by sarah //

I’ve spent months on this, and I’m so happy to be finally putting it out into the world – this is my personal Hiligaynon flashcard deck. You’ll need Anki to use it, which is a free (except for iOS) and powerful flashcard app. I’ve compiled over 2,000 Hiligaynon phrases and words with example sentences, and you can access it here.

Some examples (front and back):

name

Sín-o ang ______ mo?
What is your name?

ngálan

Sín-o ang ngálan mo?

to get a sore throat

Nag_____ ang tutúnlan ko.
My throat became sore.

áskad

Nagáskad ang tutúnlan ko.

“Can I ask a question?”

P____ k_ k__________?

Pwéde ko kapamángkot?

“Give the flowers to Vida.”

I_____ a__ b____ k__ V___.

Ihátag ang búlak kay Vida.

Speakin’ Ilonggo app: the Hiligaynon learner’s “Duolingo”

08.04.2020 by sarah //

Hands down, this app is my #1 recommendation for beginner Hiligaynon learners. It was created by a Mormon missionary, Paul Soderquist, with audio recorded by a Bacolod native. The first phrase set is free, and then it’s $10 to download the rest. Android only, but Paul says he’s working on a web app. Download it here.
